Hibernate fails 11.3 64bit

Hi,
I’m running openSUSE 11.3 64bit version on an asus p52f with gnome.
That’s the problem: when I try to hibernate from gnome menù, the hibernation process starts (hibernation screen appears with the bar in the bottom of the monitor) but at the end, when the pc should shut down, it stops: the pc remains on with the hibernation screen… unresponsive.

Then I force shut down with the reset button.
When I switch on again, the system restart as if hibernation was successful.

I got the same result with the command lines:

powersave -U

and

pm-hibernate

This is the log file pm-suspend.log:

Disable the splash display.
/etc/suspend.conf:

splash = n

And thus check at which point it stops. I guess it fails to poweroff.

Hi robin,

Disable the splash display.
/etc/suspend.conf:

splash = n

done…

You can see the process of hibernation, I have to end with the reset button, and the successive reboot.

Tell me if these are the information you need or I have to post different log files.

Thanks

No, no. Tell me what it displays in the screen the moment it stops and does
not continue; with the splash disabled you should see only text.

Disable the splash display.
/etc/suspend.conf:

splash = n

To do this I opened vi and I changed y to n on the line splash, then saved.
Is it a correct procedure?

I ask you because there is still the splash image when I start hibernation…

Yes, if you also removed the “#” char in the line…
I didn’t say it, but neither did I wrote:

#splash = n

A line starting with # is a comment.

Thank you for your patience robin, I’m learning a lot of things from you!:slight_smile:

Here is what appears:

s2disk: Snapshotting system
s2disk: System snapshot ready. Preparing to write
s2disk: Image size: 1707704 kilobytes
s2disk: Free swap: 2092912 kilobytes
s2disk: Saving 426926 image data pages (press backspace to abort) ...100% done (426926 pages)
s2disk: Compression ratio 0.48
S|

Then all remains the same until I shut down manually.

Ah! Good, that one is easy. I had the same problem.

Put this in the same file:

shutdown method = shutdown

The default is “platform”. In my 11.2 it worked till after some kernel
update, when I had to switch to “shutdown”.

You see why I dislike splash screens and prefer the “cute” text displays?
You can see what happens. It is just a few seconds. Often there is nothing
to see, but when there is a problem you have at least a chance.

HTH :slight_smile:

ALL RIGHT MAN!

Thank you again robin!
