Help Setting Up Wireless - Opensuse 11.1

So I have followed all tutorials and everything appears to be there. I am not missing any drivers. however when i run sudo /usr/sbin/iwconfig scan it returns this

andrew@linux-ank1:~> sudo /usr/sbin/iwconfig scan
scan No such device

however if i just run iwconfig without scan i get:

andrew@linux-ank1:~> sudo /usr/sbin/iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

wmaster0 no wireless extensions.

Now i have all of my wireless router information and my security key, etc. Wireless LAN: 61: None 00.0: 1070a WLAN

I suspect this problem to be unique with this install as ubuntu and fedora pick it up without a problem. However I have fallen in love with suse an would like to fix this minor problem. Any help appreciated

However, I have done a slight bit more research and while madwifi didnt do the trick i impemented the GUI for ndiswrapper (kndiswrapper) and set the windows driver as primary an VOILA!

So sorry for my meaningless question. Just took a little more research

The command should be /usr/sbin/iwlist scan

Hey there,

You said that you “did a little more research” and figured out the problem…

I’m having the problem… I’m following all the tutorials, but to no avail - I can’t seem to connect to my wireless network.

I’ve tried the “Tracking down wireless problems” page, but when I tried to input the code that would enable channels 12, 13, and 14 in hopes of that solving the problem, I got “Permission denied.”

I don’t understand why that would occur, since I’m using the root account.

Anyway, how did you get your wireless to work?

I’ll give openSUSE a few more days, but if I can’t get it to work I’m uninstalling it and waiting for PCLinuxOS 2009 to come out, which I know will be better.

Help me out if you can!
