How can I configure Google Chrole to open streaming video in smplayer
I am at tubleweed/Gnome.

I don’t know that you can do that nowadays.
Long ago, web browsers allowed you to configure content to be re-directed to specified apps but that’s not how Chrome is built today… Nowadays, a plugin/extension is required to play the file in another app.
I just searched the Chrome store for “smplayer” and didn’t return anything relevant, just several alternative video players.
On the other hand, for any standalone application like smplayer, you should be able to copy the URL of the video (not the page) and paste it into your preferred app (like smplayer) without a problem.
