Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1300 as 'Video grabber'

Hello.

Pardon the poor english of this text, please.
I am using opensuse 11.1 and gnome 2.24.1 german versions.

In my computer is a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1300 inserted (modell# 96019 rev. C6A0 serial#4026954090). The tv-input is connected with an analog cable network. Using gnome YaST shows this card named tv-card #1 with driver cx88xx. With button ‘edit’ and ‘tv channels’ there is tv-standard: PAL-BG and frequency table: West Europe. Trying the button ‘find channels’ an error message is shown ‘vbi: open failed [/dev/vbi1], tv stations found: 0’.
Next week I stop watching tv via cable an will use Satellite. Then I’m using only the composit or s-video input of my tv card.
How I can realize my tv card is possibly installed properly for this purpose?
Which program with a graphical surface is best suitable to convert analog video to mpeg or avi files?
