I am trying to do a NetInstal in a virtual machine for testing since there were recent changes to Tumbleweed related to defaulting to Systemd-boot.
On the partitioning step the default recommended setup does not enable snapshots on / therefore I entered Guided Setup and enabled snapshots. Afterwards Guided Setup says it was unable to propose a layout using the provided settings.
If I disable snapshots, then Guided setup completes successfully with a proposed layout.
Are Snapper Snapshots no longer enabled by default?
Having Snapper by default has been a key feature of openSuse so far.
I used the openSUSE-Tumbleweed-NET-x86_64-Snapshot20260329-Media.iso image and allowed it to fetch everything online.
Your virtual disk may not be large enough. You need at least 10 GiB (preferably more) for the root filesystem to get snapshots enabled by default. And don’t forget that you need /home and swap as well.
Those are per-product settings in the control.xml file on the installation medium:
You can find that file after a (YaST) installation at /etc/YaST2/control.xml.
Agama has similar settings, but in a different file.
