After logging into root and starting GUI mode by giving the command “startx” system hangs after displaying the initial green screen and panel display screen… We have to reboot the machine by pressing poweroff button… Anybody can help…?

I had a similar issue and it was because the monitor didn’t like the frequency at which the OS was sending the signals and didn’t display anything, altough the hardware light was still working. Luckily for me I still had my old monitor and I was able to set it up the new monitor with it and then I switched it. I know/hope that someone more experienced than me will give you a solution.
