Graphic driver issue on Intel DG41RQ MB

Hi Everyone,

I have purchased an Intel DG41RQ Raisin City Motherboard. I am using the onboard graphics. After installing openSUSE 11.1, the graphics driver is detected as “VESA FRAMEBUFFER GRAPHICS”. With this I cannot enable Kwin 3D effects. Is it possible to get the onboard graphics detected as “Native”? I know most 3D effects works on Intel boards when it is detected as “Native”.

Any possible suggestions? Otherwise I must return my motherboard to my supplier and buy the Intel DG35EC which only is “Native”.

Thanks

H

After googling to find the graphics spec for your Intel DG41RQ motherboard, I found these references:

Intel Desktop Board DG41RQ - motherboard - micro ATX - iG41 - Compare prices, reviews, user opinions - Shopper.com

Intel® Desktop Board DG41RQ - Technical product specification

You have an Intel GMA X4500 graphics chipset. In principle, the intel driver should support this, however it has been widely reported that various Xorg intel driver versions can cause problems with some intel chipsets (including yours). An interesting overview of the problem discussed here.

Anyway, this thread may be helpful with getting your chipset properly supported with 3D effects enabled.

Hopefully openSUSE 11.2 will give you ‘out of the box’ support.

Hi. I´ve already recommended this several other users: USE NVIDIA DRIVERS.
I strongly recommend you install NVIDIA (if you didn´t already). Checkout: NVIDIA - openSUSE

It’s great your NVIDIA works now  , but this poster has an INTEL gpu. Installing the NVIDIA driver wouldn’t do any good.
