You can use the gnome-tweak-tool and re-enable the desktop items (including the trash icon)?
On the File Manager select to “Have file manager handle the desktop”, then they will appear on your desktops again.

Seems to work intermittently. Sometime they show up, sometimes they don’t
If i do this my gnome 3 crashes for sure,each of the many times i tried it

As in asks you to log out? Was this an upgrade or a fresh install?
Got it up, running, and from what if feels like, pretty stable. The only thing is the KDE networkmanagement plasmoid, it cannot get the state of network interfaces. It does work though, makes connections etc. I know the packages for GNOME 3 and KDE have different versions.
Malcolm, let me thank you in public for all the efforts on GNOME 3 matters. A wonderful job done.
