General Install Problem

Hi There !

Today I donwloaded the suse-linux 11.0 version a tired to install it. The problem occurs when the installer try to starting upp. It seems it cannot recognize my asus dvdrw drive and its asking for the setup-source files. This blue screen coming in and asking for the setup files path. Its okay, I can copy the files to the hard-drive then show the path, but after then it load some file from the source, an error occurs, and the installer again asking for the source files. How can I install suse-linux from my hard drive if I cant install it from my dvd. Thanks for the answers.

Did you do the md5sum check on the iso file you downloaded? And, have you done the media check from the DVD menu? From your description, it sounds like a faulty download or burn.

I’m really sure that I have no problems with the iso or the media files, becouse I had the same problems with early versions, I must face allways the same problems, but this time, I didnt find an option to CD download. So if anyone can, just tell me how to setup the system from the hard disk, thats all what I ask. I already searched the entire internet about this question but nowhere find an answer.

it is your cdrom driver problem.
suse/other linux see it as dvd rom after booting from the same cd, that is why you have this persistent problem.
what is your comp configuration?
does the bios looks at it correctly?
do you have 2 cd drives?
before starting installer check if you can mount the cd in /mnt/cdrom
if cdrom in mnt is not there create one
mkdir /mnt/cdrom
if you can mount then you can give the path of source files.

The mini-CD is on the main download web page, just click on Network installation and the screen will switch for downloading that. It is 90MB. You can also check out some of the techniques in links on this page Installation - openSUSE. Some of these are somewhat technically complex, but there is one method of installing from a downloaded iso which is put on a separate partition or disk or networked machine. If you can make the Net install work, that’s the way to go.
