Frozen clock again

Decided to try Wayland again in 15.6 prior to update to 16 still experiencing freezing of the time widget (KDE). Seems to be related to VB and possibly zoom. Currently running both.

  1. Are you referring to the widget I’ve pointed out in the screenshot?
  2. And what is “VB”? VirtualBox? Visual Basic. Something else?

If it’s the clock widget in the KDE Toolbar, I checked the “Add Widgets” option for the Toolbar … there are 3-4 time widgets available, so not sure if that makes a difference. I think I chose the time widget that is not “the default”.

However, we never use wayland at login on our Leap 15.6 and Leap 16 machines (KDE / X11 only), so can’t confirm. (and don’t use Zoom).

Show us the results from timedatectl status.

Yep. it is that clock

:grinning:

gogalthorp@localhost:~> timedatectl status
Local time: Thu 2025-12-18 12:26:54 EST
Universal time: Thu 2025-12-18 17:26:54 UTC
RTC time: Thu 2025-12-18 17:26:55
Time zone: America/New_York (EST, -0500)
System clock synchronized: yes
NTP service: active
RTC in local TZ: no
gogalthorp@localho

Widget shows 10:18 AM

Ok, so not an NTP issue at least. Is the widget time actually frozen, or just reflecting the wrong time?

Does invoking the following restore the current time?
plasmashell --replace &

frozen…

Yep restarts it

It’ll be interesting to see whether it stays correct for the current session (just a transient plasmashell glitch), or if it comes back after the next login, which would suggest a more persistent Plasma or widget issue perhaps.

Also, might be worth adding a test user and observing if the issue exists for the new user config. Speculating that It may be that the issue lies with the first user config (~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc).

Nope the refresh killed VB restarted it a it soon froze the time. It is almost certain VB related.

all fine on X11 just wayland

Hmmm…I run an openSUSE Leap 16 instance (Plasma Wayland) as a VB guest. Not seen any such issue here.

As mentioned alrerady, try a new user (fresh config) and see if the same issue arises there.

Maybe an issue with 15.6 . There was also oddness on the task bar like Desktop selector widget no working. BTW VB is running Windows 10 openSUSE is the host.

Almost the same here –

  • Executing openSUSE Leap 16 with SDDM Wayland and KDE Plasma 6 on bare hardware with no time-keeping or freezing issues.

Also – SELinux enabled …
