what is in that one tab? is it just a page of text…or is it a java
game, or a flash game, or a youtube video, or or or or

probably…but i’m not sure which (if any) extensions might be real hogs
when not actually being used…

i don’t know an easy way, but just disable each extension, one at a time
and wait a few seconds to see how your readout (of percent cpu) changes
with each…

It could be running several flash applets on the page you are viewing.

I’m sure that there are other possible causes. However, when I see firefox using high CPU, it is almost always due to flash applets.

Same experience here. But not with all sites with flash content, so badly coded flash content could be a cause too.

Have found what was causing CPU drain in Firefox. It was facebook toolbar, disabled addons one by one and found that it was that that one.
