Firefox not playing Twitter videos and GIFs, but everything else.

Hey openSUSE Community,

I have an issue with Firefox (46.0.1). After installing what seem to be all required video codecs and plugins, I still have problems with Twitter videos and GIFs. Any other video source seems to work (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, etc.)

Playing back videos from a Twitter timeline, I can see the player controls and hear the videos’ audio, however, the video frame is just black. As soon as I switch to full screen, everything is fine. Also, when I scrub through the video holding down the position indicator and dragging it around, I can see the image.

Has anyone experienced this issue before? I’d rather keep using Firefox instead of Chrome (i.e. not Chromium, which has other issues). in Chrome, everything works just fine.

I have disabled all the plugins and reset Firefox’ settings already, which unfortunately didn’t change anything.

Any ideas how I could get to the bottom of this? My Tumbleweed installation is up to date.

Take care,
Simon-Claudius

From where? Did you follow the stockies at the top of the Multimedia sub-forum here? Like Multimedia in One Click - Multimedia - openSUSE Forums

In other words: did you make the switch to Packman. BTW IMHO there should be no need to install “all required video codecs and plugins”. IIAC they are all installed by default. The only thing one has to do is switch to the Packman versions of them.

Indeed, I followed these instructions. And switched to the Packman versions.

Update: I just did it again to make sure everything is correct and it is. The problem still persists.

The packman repository I’m using is: http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/packman/suse/openSUSE_Tumbleweed/

Thanks for the confirmation. When that is not 1000% sure, not very many people will even try to dig into your problem.
