Desktop environment you’re using?
Version of Firefox? (Installed from where?)
Does Firefox actually start?
If it crashes: does any particular action or web-site cause the crash? does Firefox create a crash report (about:crashes)?
Does it happen if you start Firefox in ‘safe mode’? (from the command line use ‘firefox -safe-mode’ or, if Firefox does start you can use 'Menu -> Help -> Restart with add-ons disabled)
Does it happen with a new user?
Also, what, if any, (firefox) errors are shown before:
