Finally tried 12.1

I’m really slow at jumping on the band wagon to try the newest, latest and greatest, as you can see. For goodness sake I still use a Gz One phone. I normally do a clean install that has always proved to be the best way to do so but, I thought what the heck, I’ll try the upgrade route this time. So I found how to do so using line command. Clean install would have been twice as fast. I started at 23:00 and at 05:30 I was finished, It was hard to stay awake in Church and we have a good Pastor. I don’t know yet if its an improvement or not. It looks cool I like being able to move icons in and out of favorites bar, or whatever that gizmo is on the left hand side of the screen. You know the one that shows up when you click on “Activities.” I like the 2 desktops widget, not that I ever used 4 desktops, I kinda liked the ability to switch to four, oh well two is good. It took a minute to learn how to switch from activities, to windows, to applications to find what I was looking for. I’m not sure if I like that part or not I still like the computer button on the lower task bar now gone. and being able to “click” “More Applications” but its not a real issue. My grumbles are this no minimize buttons, you have to right click and pick that option from the dialog box. You used to be able to right click on the task bar and find a way to make it bigger, that’s not available no matter where I look. I can’t set my mouse to single click. The look is becoming to close to being Ubuntuized, I’m not a real fan of the Icon bar Ubuntu uses, my wife uses Ubuntu and when I use her laptop, grrr.
Kudoes, to whomever it was that made the upgrade actually work!!!I’ve never had an upgrade turn out proper before. I use a Dell 1525 Inspiron, I know its kinda a crappy laptop, but hey it was a gift from my wife and daughter. I almost forgot to mention I can turn the touchpad off while typing. Whooo hooo I’m did the Snoopy happy dance over that one!!! Now I don’t look like a doofus when typing.
Be blessed.

You actually have a dynamic number of desktops. If you open windows in your second desktop, a third will appear. If you open windows in the third, you’ll get your fourth. Or five. Or six. I don’t know if there’s a limit, actually, but I’ve never needed more than four.

I rarely use applications that I don’t have pinned to favorites, but I suppose it would be annoying to try to get to these with just the mouse. A tip - hit the Windows key, then start typing the name of whatever application you want to use, to access it immediately.

You’ve found the only way to minimize. I think GNOME is trying to phase that out in favor of multiple desktops, which are really much better than minimizing individual windows. I think you’ll like it if you get used to it - I don’t minimize windows at all anymore - but if you want a minimize button anyway, the Advanced Settings application lets you configure that (as well as a Maximize button). It’s probably the first or second program on the Applications list.
