I’m a newbie running Suse 11. I’m trying to compile gimpshop from source and get the following error message after typing
./configure --prefix=/usr:
bash: ./configure: No such file or directory"
What do I do now? Any help is greatly appreciated.
So there is no **configure **in your working directory.
Where are you? You should **cd **to the directory where the unpacked source is put.

Sorry if this might seem obvious to most, but I was following instructions and they said to ./configure.
First of all: never be afraid to ask even when you feel like a newbie.
It looks as if you are in the right directory. You also see that configure is not there. I wonder about all the files that end in .bin. Those are realy strange.
Can you test the following: do a
cat configure.bin
and let us see if that is a normal text file or a binary indeed.
Btw. you made me curious and I searched for gimshop in Google. It brought me to Photo-Freeware.net - GIMPShop Download
Down on that page I see download buttons, but nothing for Linux. Are you sure you have a Linux package?

Well it does not look ‘binary’. Is this the first part of it or just somewhere in the middle?
head configure.bin
will give you the first few lines and they may show what sort of script it is.
But I still doubt that you have the Linux version of the product. The link in Surayamas page leads to nowhere, so I suppose you did not use it.
I am now donloading the Debian package from the other site (is that the one you used? And will look into it.
This downloading was not very clever from me. It is what it says it is: a Debian package ready to be installed on Debian (like an RPM on SUSE).
So where did you find your tarball?
Eyes to tired? I found it. Now downloading gimp-2.2.8.tar.bz2
I took the first part of the binary.

Now I see…I downloaded “For Developers: Download Gimpshop 2.2.11 source”. I noticed you chose “GIMPshop 2.2.8 Source”. I don’t know what Darwinports is, that’s why I went for the other one.
I will try to tell what I did to download. Maybe it helps.
First I went to the page you gave me GIMPshop.com - A GIMP hack by Scott Moschella
Then I clicked in side
GIMPshop 2.2.8 Source: if you’re running Linux or don’t mind getting your hands a little dirty in OS X (Darwinports). (13.5 MB) Download Alternate Download Link
on Download and was transferred to RapidShare: Easy Filehosting. I clicked “Free user” and waited for the countdown. Then I selected the place where to go and it downloaded there.
After download I clicked my “Home” in the panel and of course Konqueror started. Clicked my way to the place where I downloaded. Right clicked on gimp-2.2.8.tar.bz2, choose unpack… here. Afterwards I had a subdirectory gimp-2.2.8 and there was what I showed earlier.

I checked in YAST and I have glib installed. It’s version 1.2.10-710 with no other version available.
I hope one day, I will understand all this…
To me it seems that 1.2.10 is quite normal.
This is how it goes often when one tries to build himself.
