I found these hints in other threads, here is a quick summary
-
Edit /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager
Change to:
DISPLAYMANAGER_REMOTE_ACCESS=“yes”
Read through the rest to know what is controlled there.
2.
Edit /usr/share/kde4/config/kdm/kdmrc
Change to:
[Xdmcp]
Whether KDM should listen to incoming XDMCP requests.
Default is false
Enable=true
Read through the rest to know what is controlled there.
3.
Edit the Suse firewall settings, either open ports or shut it down depending on your situation
-
SuSEconfig or reboot
I am puzzled for many years now. Configuration of those kind of services is getting more and more difficult, changes and have to read ton’s of documentation to find it.
Now I switch the firewall off all the time, since it is so difficult to find why it is not working. So security is completely gone already, even without those nice services.
Did all kind of suggestions found on the internet and forums, but with no result. There was a time in the past it was just default on. together with my friend telnet, ftp and nfs.
Now I have to spend day’s to get something working if i get it to work. This would not be a problem if it would have been once, but it seems with every release I have to start again my quest to the nice old services.
If I only would do some internet browsing, I don’t need linux.
I choose linux for stable and easy connectivity. This was the past I quess. Maby back to windows with remote desktop and windows shares ? Now it seems to be much more easy to setup.
Where went it wrong ?
