I want to use EmojiOne as my system emoji font and make it work everywhere. I have gotten fontconfig to serve EmojiOne (finally; I ended up removing Noto Color and Twitter Color before it would work), but they are all black-and-white:
I didn’t see what browser you’re using. In the YaST repo I see,
“the font works in all operating systems, but will currently only show color emoji in Firefox, Thunderbird and other Mozilla Gecko-based applications. This is not a limitation of the font, but of the operating systems and applications. Regular B&W outline emoji are included for backwards/fallback compatibility.”
I’m assuming this is limitation is not the issue. Otherwise, I see instructions on multiple websites for Ubuntu, but not the rest of the Linux gang.
Hmm, I’m not sure that I saw all that about the black-and-white rendering. It’s a shame, because modern applications/frameworks ought to be capable of rendering color emojis in all fonts, not just Noto.
