Dual Monitors Opensuse 12.1

Hello and thank you for your time,

I am attempting to set up dual monitors. I don’t want my desktop to span across two screens but I want to be able to easily change displays from my monitor to my television for watching movies and then back to monitor when movie is over. I am able to do this on my laptop with an older version of Ubuntu and on my desktop with Windows 7, but cannot figure out how to do it with Opensuse on my desktop. The graphics card in the desktop is an Nvidia 520 (1 dvi, 1 vga).

Any assistance would be much appreciated and thank you for your time again,
Shawn

I found a way to kind of do it but I would like to know of a way to do it with a couple clicks or some type of key command quickly. My fiancee will never remember how to do all of this and I need to make it much simpler, as it should be.

Open terminal
su
password
then type nvidia-settings

I then enable the second monitor and disable the first.
Apply settings
Save x configuration
cntrl+alt+backspace to restart x

Log back in to the computer.

Then I have to do it all over again to get the screen to switch back to my computer monitor from my television.

Hi
Press alt+F2 gnomesu nvidia-settings or kdesu, else just create a
desktop entry and icon. You can add nvidia-settings to sudoers then no
need for a password?

Another thought, just create two different xorg.conf files for the two
different settings you require and just script out changing and
restarting X?

AFAIK for the current user session only, there’s no need to use root privileges. You can change the screen from nvidia-settings without saving to xorg.conf.

Can’t you just set up two separate xwindows?
