Drivers for ASUS wireless USB Adapter - Installation Help on suse linux

Dear Experts,

I have recently purchased ASUS Wireless usb adapter N-13 (802.11 b/g/n) . I have tried installing realtek drivers that comes with CD for linux, but since they are for 32 bit they dint work i guess. I get the error same as in https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/wireless/444192-realtek-rtl8192se-usb-no-drivers-suse-11-3-x86_64-a.html.

Below is the output of lsusb

Bus 002 Device 005:ID 0b05:17ab ASUSTek Computer , Inc.

I am running Suse Linux X86_64 . Suse 12

uname -r ouput

3.0.13-0.27-default

I am not a linux expert , but i need to get this worked ASAP, earlier i got TP link adapter and it dint work too. Please help me with correct driver and installation instructions

Thanks
Rav

Hello new member and welcome here.
To get the best help, there are a few basics here. One of them is to tell what version of openSUSE you use.

It says you use a 64-bit version, but Suse 12 Is not very exact. There is openSUSE (not Suse) 12.1, 12.2 and 12.3. When you do not know, then use

cat /etc/SuSE-release

to find out.

And when you post computer text here there is a feature that is not obvious to find (thus we have to explain it to you), but please use CODE tags. You get CODE tags by clicking on the # button in tool bar of the pot editor. And please the copy/paste from your terminal window the prompt, the command, the output and the next prompt directly between the tags. It will amongst other things spare you to tell “uname -r output”, because that is then obvious. My example:

henk@boven:~> uname -r
3.4.47-2.38-desktop
henk@boven:~>

Thank You Mod

I am running 64 bit version of Suse Linux enterprise server 11 SP2

Thanks for the inputs

TThen you are at the wrong forums. The forums for SLES/SLED are at: https://forums.suse.com/

Thanks Mod , i have posted it there too

Can i still keep this thread here? just wondering some one can still throw up some ideas?

Hi
Hopefully one of the driver developers will post some info since he does frequent these fora.

Unfortunately it looks like PCI ID 0B05:17AB in the rtl8192cu kernel module is not supported in the 3.0.x kernels…

If you were using openSUSE, I would recommend installing the latest
compat-wireless package. Perhaps that will work with SuSE, but perhaps not.

i am really not sure which is the latest compat-wireless, i see lots of drivers at Realtek site which supports kernel version 3.0, 3.2, will they work for this device and for 64 bit ? Where can i get latest compat-wireless package

@Driver developers - Please help

Check out
software.opensuse.org:

Or maybe not
It looks like nothing is listed in SLES

Hi
Looks like it’s called compat-drivers now, just trying a local build
for SLE 11 SP2.

If all the above solution is not working for you. Then you should contact with Asus support. Hope they will help you. I also contact them for many technical problem.
