Dolphin as file manager for firefox

Hi!!

I just installed KDE4.2 some days ago, and I have a little problem with my firefox configuration:

When I download a file and I open it’s location, Firefox opens the folder with nautilus and not with Dolphin. I tried a lot of things I found on Internet, but nothing helped:

  • I change several things in about:config.
  • I tried to configure the applications association in the preference menú.
  • I tried to install an extension to allow me to edit the file type associations without success.

I read that I have to edit the mimetype.rdf file, and change the option for the “file” entry, but that entry doesn’t exist in my actual mimetype.rdf file. I deleted that file, but the new file doesn’t have that option either.

Could someone tell me please what do I have to write in that file in order to set dolphin as the file manager? Could someone tell me please if there is another way to make this?

Thank you very much for your support, and excuse my english

Bye bye.

It’s easy type about:config in the address field answer tes to the security question then type pick in the filter field and right click on ui.allow_platform_file_picker and choose toggle. Then restart firefox.
There’s more info here how to integrate Firefox into KDE - 1

Thanks geoffro for your reply, but I already tried that, and it didn’t work :’(

Yeah, that just gives a really ugly and nearly useless built-in file picker.

Edit /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache

change
x-directory/gnome-default-handler=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop
to
x-directory/gnome-default-handler=kde4-dolphin.desktop

save the file and test.

beware this file changes whenever new applications are installed/deinstalled.

Edit /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache

change
x-directory/gnome-default-handler=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop
to
x-directory/gnome-default-handler=kde4-dolphin.desktop

Thanks Canyon 500, just wanted to say thanks for the tip. It’s the first thing that’s worked for me, so thanks!

For anyone searching or wondering, i’m using kubuntu 9.04 with KDE4 (not sure if that makes me a bad person round these parts of the woods :P)

Hallo there,

I’ve been looking for that line “x-directory …” in mimeinfo.cache, but just don’t find it.
Is there a solution for openSuSE 11.4 KDE with Firefox 6.0.2?

Thanks for a short reply.

PS: I would have loved to manage files and serve the net with Konqueror, but - as far as I can see - this programme’s got a few disadvantages (e.g. LINUX • Thema anzeigen - [gelöst] Konqueror mit Adobe Flash Plugin 9.0.115.0 Konqueror - nur eingeschränkt nutzbar?) … If you like, you may give me some hints in this direction as well.
