Difference??

Hi,

I’m new in open Suse and I wanted to try out the LXDE version of it. I’m just wondering what’s the difference between the following which I saw from LXDE - openSUSE

I’m not sure which one to download. From what I read, Tumbleweed is nice. What’s the difference between Tumbleweed and the 12.3?

Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment
Download for openSUSE:

Thanks in advance. Cheers!

What’s the difference between Tumbleweed and the 12.3

No that much
It’s rolling release, and will have newer version of apps and kernel. It’s not for beginners.

Stay with 12.3. When you gain experience, you can choose tumbleweed if
you prefer it. It is a somewhat stabilized branch of factory, thus
continuously changing. You are always upgrading, and may be hit by new
problems sooner that the rest of us :-p

Notice that is the openSUSE version, not the LXDE version.

You need to download the DVDs, not “live” ISO from these pages to get LXDE
software.opensuse.org: Download openSUSE 12.3
software.opensuse.org: Download openSUSE 12.2

12.1 and 11.4 have been discontinued
Refer:- Lifetime - openSUSE

thanks for the info.

okay. i tried the 12.3 but i’m looking for the LXDE version.

i downloaded the 12.3 and installed to a pc.
what do i do to get the LXDE?

i saw this link http://susestudio.com/a/cDRzLz/opensuse-12-2-lxde-xfce-remix#discussion where it says it’s the open suse lxde 12.2
i tried this but it won’t boot from USB and there’s no option to install to a pc.

Use the full DVD. When asked about Gnome or KDE, choose “other”. Then
one of the options is LXDE.

Do not search for a DVD labeled “lxde”, there is none (officially).

thanks. i’ll try it now and let you know.

Just a note for those who have already installed. You can add LXDE, by going to YAST, selecting ‘Patterns’ and checking the LXDE desktop environment and letting it install, then you can choose it at log in time.
