Device Notifier stopped working

Hi
Im running suse 11.4 on my laptop, everything was ok, this morning, I’ve attached two or three usb flashes to my laptop and mounted them by device notifer but after an hour, I’ve attached another usb flash and device notifer stopped working for any usb device or cd/dvd rom actions… (I mean that it doesnt shows ant action, completely emotionless! :stuck_out_tongue: )
all of them are mountable by command line.

and after that my dolphin places, doesent shows removeable devices and other partitions enymore :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: (so i couldnt mount any partion using gui)

Im new to openSuse (and also a bit new to KDE), searched a lot for these problems and found other peoples who had these problems, but there were no solution.
sry if my first post is my problem
thx

that is ok -=welcome=- to the forum and openSUSE!

sorry, i don’t have a straight answer for you…i just wanna let you
know that my watch says your request is about ten hours old and
usually in that amount of time you have had several someones pushing
help onto your plate (but, i think you hit at the perfect time to find
most out chasing friday night dreams, or smiling at home with family)…

wait for competent help, i’m pretty sure a real guru will pop in
soon…but in the mean time you might want to try this: right click on
the Device Notifier icon, select “Device Notifier settings” and then
look around in there for stuff that looks like it would be ok to
change a little and see if that helps…like mine was born to only
“Display Removable devices”…and, i don’t see how it could hurt to
switch it to “Display All devices”…

hmmmmm, there is a section on automatic mounting of removable
devices…mine has that not enabled and i’d be inclined to keep it
that way (for security)…but, you may want different…

my point is, there may be things going on in the set up that is
causing the symptoms you see…i can’t find the help/documentation
for the Device Notifier, but if you do i guess you will find your
answer…[finding may be faster than the slowly arriving weekend guru]

and, if it is not working as designed then you need to log a bug…it
is troublesome to me that apparently the correctness of its actions
diminished over time…

i can confirm that the udisk implementation seems to be unreliable in 4.6, and i cannot offer a solution, but DenverD’s observation:

“it
is troublesome to me that apparently the correctness of its actions
diminished over time”

is spot on, i’d get it to function acceptably and later i’d get kdesu dialogs to do things i’d fixed and done before as user.

sometimes i think in KDEworld “final” means the “day we announced” latest version, has nothing to do with completeness.

thx for the responses
I’ve tried to change the dev notifier settings but the problem is still alive!
I dont know, maybe the problem is caused by a conflict of packages or something wrong in settings, if so, have an update in future on system wont solve the problem and I need another fresh install?! :((
