Detect 8800GT after compiling newest Nvidia driver

Hi everyone
Well my issue is simple, the driver provided by nvidia repository was ekhem crappy a bit (inactive window invisible or glitchy) so i just compiled the newest driver from nvidia and now it’s fine but how the hell force sax2 to detect my card?? With the older driver it worked but now it just makes half of the screen glitchy and the other half is reversed and cut in half meaning whats on left side should be on the right side. And it still can’t detect my card. How can i force it to? (yes, i tried init 3 sax2 and sax2 -r and all other variations including 0=nvidia). Any help appreciated, thanks

At the bootsplash type
“3”
boots you to runlevel 3

Login as root
P/W
“sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia”

Should work if the driver works.

If not,
boot to runlevel 3
Login as root
P/W
“sax2 -m 0=vesa”
will get you up; but it’s a crappy driver
then you can check out the Nvidia site for the right driver for your card:)

If sax2 does not recognize the nvidia driver just edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change driver “nv” to driver “nvidia”.

Well the thing is i saved xorg file from when i had suse driver. The only issue now (everything works fine ) is that sax2 when used overwrites xorg and hell breaks loose. Everything goes back to stone ages. Now i have everything working (xorg file read only, try to eat that sax2 ), it sees it as Vesa not as 8800GT like the suses driver. I just want to see what I’m running Could it be a bug?
P.S. Yes I used sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia as root, restarted and still nada. It just makes my eyes bleed by changing resolution to 800x600 where it should be 1440x900.
P.S.2 I don’t really remember but there is option for sax2 to use existing configuration files (xorg?) and even with that it still says Vesa.

Have you tried the Nvidia Howto @ Nvidia Installer HOWTO for SUSE LINUX users

Boot with the Vesa driver & follow the guide
try the Yast method 1st
if that doesn’t work, back to the Vesa driver
then try the Nvidia manual install method.

You can try the “beta” driver @ NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Advanced Search
with a manual install. There one there dtd 17 June:)

Actually the driver that SUSEe Nvidia repo provides is a BETA and with this one i have a problem that my inactive window is either invisible or glitchy, there are some threads about that from some people so i believe it’s either the driver or something got f****d up while making rpm for people. The driver i use is the latest WHQL version.
