DELL IDRAC broken after tumbleweed update

Hi. I’m running Tumbleweed on Dell servers with IDRAC 9 (some kind of IPMI).
Everything worked fine till last month. After a ’ tumbleweed update’ the console (KVM direct attached), IDRAC conole preview and IDRAC console are showing “No Signal” after loading initrd. ssh still works.
I tried to reinstall from DVD- and NET-images. Same failure for the newer installers.
Console dying before I can install anything. Using an installer from 2024/08 works fine.
tumbleweed update leads to the same problem.
The latest tested kernel is 6.11.7-1-default.
Switching back to the former kernel in the grub menu helps.
Using the LT-kernel works fine.
Comparing the kernel-configs, I can’t find any changes which seems to be relevant for this.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.

Not sure how IDRAC fits in the boot process, I read:

Given that iDRAC is embedded in every PowerEdge server, there’s no additional software to install.

Good you tried with an older kernel and you do not see problems with that. Based on that it looks not Tumbleweed problem but a Linux kernel problem or better said, a IDRAC problem in the sense that it does not run with the latest Linux kernel.

I would contact Dell support.

Do you mean the serial or the graphical console? Compare the kernel arguments, especially console.

Hi,
I see it witch the VGA-port, don,t check the serial on.
The kernel parameters are not changed, if you choose an other kernel in the grub menu.
