I’ve noticed when monitoring my system that beagle always runs at boot-up and uses a lot of resources. I
never use it, will my system break of go goofy if I
delete it and its libraries…
you can sefely delete beagle, your system won’t break

Or just (re)move the cron job ‘beagle-crawl-system’ in /etc/cron.daily

I would really suggest to deinstall it with YaST so you are sure it is gone.
After all when you want to reverse this you can always install again (I never felt pressed to reinstall, not even slightly).
In SUSE 11.0 I installed KDE4 and then KDE3. Something made my laptop crash while starting KDE (any version) after I I had both versions. I suspected beagle. Anyway, I removed beagle using yast. That did definitely did not break the system, but made it work again:)

i deleted it in 10.2 (or .1) and later found out i couldn’t access the
KDE documentation via F1 because beagle wasn’t running…is that still
the case??

I have 10.3 and no Beagle installed. I just started Kcalc and pressed F1. Kcalc’s Manual is now before me. So either it is fixed in 10.3, or you had something different. I guess it is the second option. Do not think that Beagle is used by KDE as an integral part for starting documentation.
