Did some searching, but not really came to a conclusion… As in:
Why is the Open Broadcast Studio (OBS) not in any OpenSuse repo? I know there’s packman, and community repo’s. But why not officially in a repo of TW or SR? Legal reasons?
Or… is it in a repo, and I just waisted your time reading this
Ultimately, each distro decides what their acceptable level of risk is, and this is where SUSE and the openSUSE project landed.
Additionally, the goal of “openSUSE” is that it is “open” - using only open-source code in the official repositories. But being “open” is more than just about the code, it’s about not being under a restrictive patent. Even though some of those patents may have now lapsed, there are historical reasons (as I understand it) that they’ve been left in Packman.
