cups windows driver

Ok have setup my printer under suse 11.3 just fine and printing perfectly, and have added the printer to a windows 7 client, but had to get the disk to install the windows driver. Is there any way that i can put the windows driver on the linux machine so that when i go to a windows client and want to add the printer, i can just connect to the printer and the windows driver will be installed over the network like it does with windows servers?

I thing no, because we have other programmes for windows and other for linux, that’s the same with drivers, there is a way to run windows programmes with linux, the way is wine but Ι doubt with that because wine can not run all windows programmes. After making the correct settings and network printer are able to work but to install the driver should not be seen. But it recognized by the server and from client. Doesn’t it?

If you use Samba, it is possible to load the Windows drivers into the [print$]
share of /etc/samba/smb.conf. Windows computers can then download them from
the server as they would from another windows machine. Keep in mind though
that the Windows 7 drivers are generally different than those of XP. To be
perfectly honest I’ve not tested this with Windows 7, but it works slick with
XP and Vista. Write back if you choose the Samba route.

AFAIK this can not be done directly with CUPS.

After thought!

You may need a domain environment for this, never tried it in a Workgroup.

Actually I do not know about Samba. Anyway, I use it right now.
