Now I’m getting this “could not find usable proxy configuration script” when launching firefox…not chrome however. I’m not trying to connect to anything, for example Amarok launches with that error. I don’t get it.
FIXED: Stupid stupid stupid…I kept looking in YAST, but it’s
In KDE Control Center under Network Settings, not YAST, I had a checkbox to automatically detect proxy settings. Changed to Direct Connection to Internet, and it’s gone …DUH !! rotfl!
I got clued in the right answer when I read that YAST does not use KDE Network settings !!! So I went to KDE Control Center…
The defaultsetting there is actually:
‘Use preset proxy environment variables’
yes…it is. I knew it was something simple like that so it was driving me bananas…LOL thanks as always caf for the assistance!
I don’t think the error message gave any hints about it being
a KDE thing. After reading this and meandering my way around
to “Add, Edit and Remove network connections” in the KDE system
settings, I didn’t see any check boxes for “Direct Connection
to Internet”. It is pretty nonsensical for KDE to be demanding
its own ifconfiguration. But, adding a wired connection there
makes that irritating pop up go away. So I guess all is well.
