Core i3 Intel Clarkdale graphic controller problem

I own a MB with H55 Chipset and a Core i3 540 with openSuse 11.2.
I tried kernel 2.6.32 and 2.6.34 and the newest Xorg delete the xorg.conf and got a fine picture on the screen (same with xorg.conf and device “intel”) Even HD MKV is possible.
But in KDE I can only open one programm. If I try to open a second programm the desktop disappear and I get the KDM screen and have to login again and the former started programm is gone. Only if I start the programms via an open Terminal window the programms will run.
I tried to delete all .kde(x) directories, but it´s the same after restart.

Only if I use driver “fbdev” in the xorg.conf I get no problem. But then the screen is very slow.

I moved this post and gave it a more appropriate title, as it was previous in the wrong thread area.

The Core i3 Intel Clarkdale is fairly new. I note Phoronix had an article on this: [Phoronix] Intel Clarkdale Linux Graphics Performance](http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=intel_clarkdale_gpu&num=1)

As you have noted already, openSUSE-11.2 as packaged does not support this new hardware.

I believe your options are to either try updating openSUSE-11.2 with non-official packages so as to support this hardware, or to try out an openSUSE-11.3 milestone version, or both. In the case of 11.3 milestone you can download and try a liveCD without actually installing.

With respect to what you just attempted, if you wish a quality check of it, you need to advise as to exactly what you installed in terms of Xorg, Mesa, Intel driver (ie xorg-x11-driver-video rpm) and the kernel. ie post a list of EXACT versions. How confident are you that you installed the exact versions needed?

wrt 11.3 milestone, I note this bug report: Access Denied where it appears a fix to openSUSE-11.3 for the Clarkdale graphics, to a likely unrelated problem, was discovered. That does suggest to me that there is a reasonable probability that 11.3 should work with your PC. Unfortunately, 11.3 is not completely stable yet, as release is still 2 months away.

Thank you for the replies.

Today I tried the LiveCD of opensuse 11.3 Milestone 7. The Computer is booting and everythink works well. But if I turn on the visual effects it´s the same game as in openSuse 11.2 with a newer kernel: If I try to open a second (sometimes a third) programm the desktop disapear and I have to login again.

I´m not familar with the bugtracker. Please can you sent my experience to the developers?

Because of the experience with openSuse 11.3 Milestone 7 I found a workaround I can live with.
In my openSuse 11.2 with kernel 2.6.34 I delete the xorg.conf and shut off the visual Effects. Now the system is able to show me MKV HD movies and has a quick screen.

The problem seem to be in the visual effects in KDE.

Its best you submit this your self. Invariably they have questions, and I will not be able to answer them. PLUS you are motivated more than I to see this fixed.

There is guidance here on how to raise a bug report: Submitting Bug Reports - openSUSE You can use your openSUSE forum username and password when logging on to bugzilla to raise the bug.

I, too, can confirm this situation, though I haven’t tested it without using compositing (kwin). I originally posted a similar thread in the 64-bit forum here.
