Connect scanner on HP Neverstop Laser MFP 120x

Using normal YaST (no HPLIP) I have been able to connect to HP Neverstop Laser MFP 120x for printing but cannot scan. Installed HPLIP. When I run it, it errors out telling me I am missing avahi-browser. which zypper does not find. What is my next step.

I think you mean ‘avahi-browse’. Install the ‘avahi-utils’ package for that.

Avahi-browse installed. Then I ran su - -c “hp-setup” successfully. Ran Document Scanner, which found found the scanner and said it was “Ready to scan”. But when I clicked on the “Scan” option, it reported “Failed to scan. Unable to connect to scanner.”

The printer functions.

Post as root:
hp-check

Long One…

I note that hp-check reports xsane is not installed…

error: xsane xsane - Graphical scanner frontend for SANE OPTIONAL 0.9 - MISSING 'xsane needs to be installed'

Installed xsane but many errors/incompatibilities still exist. I’m am more concerned by the incompatibilities and wonder whether I might spend hours installing needed software and still be unable to scan. This process seems overly complex just so I can use a scanner that is identified. What do you advise?

Ok, now that you have xsane installed, are you able to scan successfully?

I would install these packages, but can you show:
zypper lr -d

Should be included in hplip 3.20.6

Thanks for the assistance, but I have dropped my attempts to connect this H-P scanner. I don’t feel that I should have go through all sorts of complicated twists and turns when my Canon scanner connects instantly using YaST.

Is your scanner at least detected with

scanimage -L

If not, disable the firewall first and run again. Report back with the output.
