Configuring the desktop icons

By passing the mouse over an icon on the desktop, pops up a small window with 4 icons in it.
I would like to turn off this feature.
How to do it?

Thanks in advance.

These handles appear when you hover your mouse over a plasmoid (widget).
So your “desktop icons” are not really icons but plasmoids.

Two ways to get rid of those handles:

  • right-click on the desktop and choose “Lock Widgets”, you can’t make any changes then until you “Unlock” them again of course
  • switch to a classic style desktop with normal icons:
Right-click on the desktop and select “Default Desktop Settings”, and change the Layout to “Folderview”.
Or select “Activities…” in the right-click menu or click on the Activity Manager icon (3 dots) in the panel, and switch to the “Desktop Icons” activity. This then shows the contents of the “Desktop” folder on your desktop, like it is done in Windows or KDE3. But you can even configure which folder to display…

Thank you very much
His response was great and solved my problem.

By reading the answer above, I may decide that this is about KDE. I hope wolfi323 got this right. But please sergelli, not all of us are that clairvoyant. Please, please, allways tell which version of openSUSE you use and which desktop environment.

I am using OpenSuse 12.3 and KDE

Thanks for the reminder and please, sorry about that my fault.
I will not let it happen again.
