Client for Hypevisor 5.5 running in openSuse 13.2

Have an operating Dell hypervisor Server running on my LAN. Would like to set up a client for hypervisor running in openSuse 13.2 on my laptop. My question is what client should I use? Can’t seem to find anything beyond windows at VMWare.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

I’m not quite sure what you’re asking here.

You have a VMWare ESXi 5.5 running on a Dell system and want to administer it with a client from openSUSE?

I would like to avoid using windows for a client running on my laptop if at all possible. Of course if I use windows on my laptop for a client, I can set up virtual linux machines within that client.

Well in theory you could get the vSphere Client (VPX) to work via Wine, however even at best you wouldn’t get the virtual console to work as I recall it simply crashed and there was no fix for it : https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=30036

VMware has been moving towards forcing people to use vSphere Web UI although that’s going to cost a fair bit. I would just run some minimal Win8.1 install in a VM and administer through it if you had to use the client.

It’s just well known “since forever” that a number of VMware implementations including the VSphere and Horizon clients require Windows.

BTW - If you want to give Wine a try, it looks like someone built something for 5.5
