brand new to linux, did a clean install of Tumbleweed with KDE Plasma. upon boot, desktop is incredibly laggy. i see kwin_wayland is pegging my CPU at ~98%. is this likely a display driver issue? i saw the installer detected my GPU correctly, so is it a bug if it installed the wrong driver? regardless, how to fix??? it’s very hard finding my way around a new OS and seeing what’s installed and troubleshooting when it takes 5 seconds just to move my mouse across the screen!
Yes, it can be tough. Given how unusable the desktop currently is, it might be worth a shot to try logging into a Plasma X11 session from the SDDM login screen. If X11 is more responsive, that would give you a usable desktop from which to gather the diagnostic information perhaps.
Otherwise try from a VT and redirect the output to a text file. You could then copy that file to a USB stick and post it from another working machine. That way we can see what’s actually happening without having to fight with the laggy desktop. Let us know if you need help with this approach.
This sounds like nouveau driver with wayland.
For troubleshooting purpose the temporary addition of nomodeset to the kernel command line will help. Afterwards we can assist with rhe Nvidia driver installation. For this we need the requested output.

hui - is correct. I did a fresh install yesterday (using the latest iso {20260806 - which defaults to wayland). For some reason it does not appear to enable the mouse and is very difficult t use. Enabling the mouse would be straightforward if it worked - system settings / mouse / put a tick in the 'enable device box).
I cheated in the end, as I had an iso from last week on another p/c and used this for a fresh install. Even better the old iso was post the gcc rebalance.
