changing machine name

how do i change my openSUSE 11.1 machine name? i never saw any options on installation about the name for my machine…

every other distro that i have used Ubuntu/Fedora and Windows asks for a machine name during installation… why not openSUSE?

It’s in the YaST / Network Services / Network Services / Hostname/DNS.

Stragely enough, I set up the hostname when I set up my network during
installation. You must have just clicked “next”.

Kind regards,

I presume you mean the “hostname.”

Go to YaST and select “Network Devices”. On the tab “Hostname/DNS”, enter the desired computer name in the text box titled, “Hostname”. My openSUSE 11.0, KDE 3.5, machine also has the two check boxes immediately below that,“Change Hostname via DHCP” and “Write Hostname to /etc/hosts”, checked.

figured it out -

gedit /etc/HOSTNAME and changed xxxx-xxx.site to newname.site

save and reboot

done

during installation i got a “no network connected” error so i just clicked ok… i think maybe that’s why it skipped
