Thank you for the speedy reply. Unfortunately the “Options” menu in your response does not exist in version 8.20.0.9
When I invoked “lsof -i” I found all these ports open, and I wonder why. I don’t think I’ll be using Skype much longer. Microsoft offers little support for Linux.

you’re right I hadn’t used skype on desktop for a long time I just installed it and while it does look pretty a lot of options are gone as far as I can tell there is no way to changing the port used (this seams to be true for the new windows port too)

while I’m not sure if skype switched to port 80 but afaik it does play nice with firewalld
Problem solved. Switched to Google Hangouts. It works, and has far superior sound quality.
as I said I just installed skype and it works well for me and I’m behind a router so I’m pretty sure the port skype uses is not open
anyway if there are several versions of skype available from the skype repo you can use yast to install the oldest one as I’m not sure when MS redesigned their gui and removed the change port option
