Can't play sound files with clementine

I can’t play sounde files with clementine. When I try I get a popup showing this error message:
“GStreamer could not create the element: uridecodebin. Please make sure that you have installed all necessary GStreamer plugins (e.g. OGG and MP3)”
Clementine worked until about a week ago and I don’t think I have removed any gstreamer plugins lately.

I haven’t been able to solve the problem. I still get the same error message. Any idea about how to resolve this issue.

I think there has been a new version released after many years of no updates. It’s possible you might have been updated to that one 1.4 rather than 1.3. I know there were some issues with codecs when it first came out. Mine is working OK now, so maybe check in YAST to see which version you have and maybe try and update.

rpm -qa|grep clementine returns this:
clementine-1.4.0~rc2-170.1.x86_64

Maybe strawberry is an alternative, its a clementine fork.

It should be in the OSS Repo.

I use the Strawberry player too, actually in preference to Clementine as it is maintained more regualrly. Or if you just want a simple audio player then Audacious is pretty good for that.

I’m using (or rather, used) clementine to, among other things, listen to podcasts. Is that possible with strawberry?

Not sure as I tried streaming a link to a podcast and that didn’t seem to work & gave some plugin error which maybe what you are experiencing. On a quick search in Software I came across musicpod which is available as a Flathub. This seemed well set up for podcasts when I gave it a quick try and seems pretty well set up for adding & playing podcasts. Hope this helps.

I googled “alternatives to clementine” and found a page giving me, if I count correctly, 49 options for different operating systems. One of them being Amarok. I still liked the UI of Amarok 1 better than version 2, but it’s good enough.

Amarok (version 3.2.2-1.2) works fine with Tumbleweed for me and is the standard repo.

That said, I also use Clementine & Strawberry without any problems
