Try adding an fstab entry to mount the dvd drive. Something like:
/dev/sr0 /media/dvd iso9660 ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
where sr0 is the dvd drive’s device name
done that already: here
cat /etc/fstab
/dev/disk/by-id/ata-Hitachi_HTS543232L9A300_090616FB6432LEEWNKWB-part1 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/disk/by-id/ata-Hitachi_HTS543232L9A300_090616FB6432LEEWNKWB-part2 / ext3 acl,user_xattr 1 1
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0
debugfs /sys/kernel/debug debugfs noauto 0 0
usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0
/dev/sr0 /media/dvd iso9660 ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
and created /media/dvd location
here is the output asked in 10 steps to check multimedia:

im at the end of my wits here. took out all entries from fstab as it appears that media is being loaded properly without them. checked to see if user is member of disk cd audio. yes. checked libdvdcss, tried libdvdcss2. i can actually play trailers, but then playback stops with cant read from media. please. anyone?
Maybe the DVD drive needs checking. You shall check with dual-layer DVDs.
You can try to copy from a dual-layer data DVD; burn a dual-layer data DVD; copy your failing DVD onto hard drive.
All these will force the DVD drive to run over the whole surface and and all layers of the DVDs.
And, by the way, maybe you should install libdvdnav4.
Install from the Packman repo:
libdvdread3
libdvdread4
libdvdnav4
libdvdplay0
ffmpeg
kde4-k3b-codecs
If this does not work, I would say the drive is failing.
Had same issue have you try VLC media player and works great for me has great play back.

I’ve been down this road before, with Fedora, opensuse, and Ubuntu.
The easiest to fix was Ubuntu, there’s a link in their forum that download and installs all the needed codecs.
In OpenSuSE I had to use the RPM’s for libdvdccs, libdvdread, libdvdnav but from the VLC VideoLan repo. Those seem to work better than Pacman. weird I know but it works.
For your info, I’m using Lenovo T-61 all intel chips.
CHEERS!
Hi,
I would also recommend installing VLC media player, it works like a dream and it plays all the possible movie file types as well as DVD’s.
You can install it either from:
PackMan :: Package details for vlc
or
VLC media player for openSUSE
For me the 1-Click install worked 100%.
I hope you can watch DVD’s on your SUSE system this weekend.
Enjoy

On this model of laptop, playing DVD is no problem using Kaffiene. you will have to install Kaffiene, then in software management download
libdvdcss
libxine all
win32codecsall
k3b codecs
libdvdread
libdvdnav
all lib xine files
all dvb files
try this out and let us know
