These are some of the friendliest forums, relax. Your profile pic may need some explaining though

How are you installing? DVD? LiveCD? USB?

Are you trying to dual boot? Or is the partition blank? 64 bit or 32 bit?

relax…i’m writing on a AOD255 and almost everything works right out of
the box…

but, i can’t understand why or when you would get a “can’t locate
cd/dvd” … so i wonder if you are trying to run the install from inside
Windows? if so, do NOT do that…

  1. shut down the machine

  2. plug in the external CD/DVD drive

  3. put the install disk in the drive

  4. boot and during the boot push the key (i think it is F2) to get to
the BIOS, adjust the “boot” section of the BIOS so that it looks first
    to CD/DVD

  5. once the machine is set to boot from the CD/DVD it should boot up to
a screen looking kinda like this: http://tinyurl.com/2ebcf27

  6. if you see that screen, do NOT select “Installation” instead arrow
down to “Check Installation Media” and run that…

NOTE: Any error is too many, and you must not install from a corrupted
disk. Hints on producing a perfect install disk are found in the
Download Help <http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Download_help> link on the
software download page, and additional information and guidance is
available in the openSUSE Pre-install (general) FAQ
<http://tinyurl.com/yhf65pv>, and/or the more specific openSUSE-11.4
Pre-installation FAQ <http://tinyurl.com/6dn6gm8>. Both of those FAQs
contain a wealth of information for anyone new to openSUSE (even
“seasoned Linux veterans” with prior experience in other distributions).
Read them, they will save you a lot more time than what it takes to read.

remember, you MUST install only from install media with no errors…if
your errors, post again before trying to install…

if there are no errors presented from the check of the install disk,
still DO not run the install yet because i guess you may want to dual
boot with the win7 which came with the machine (?) is so then you also
should probably see Install openSUSE alongside Win7/Vista - A Guide
<http://tinyurl.com/3mywhwf> and maybe openSUSE Dual Booting with
Windows 7 AND Loading Service Pack 1 for Windows 7
<http://tinyurl.com/5vwlfws> BEFORE clicking on that green screen’s
“Installation”…

last hint: there are LOTS of things different here in openSUSE, and if
you are not careful and do stuff the openSUSE way you will hurt your
system…so, here are some of the differences you also need to review
prior to messing up: when you are converting from Ubuntu
<http://tinyurl.com/ubuntu-to-openSUSE>…i hope that info is all you
need to make the transition from the other distro…if not, then PLEASE
as you learn from your mistakes (based on Ubuntu habits) please document
the new info needed to complete the conversion tutorial…thanks.

openSUSE®, the “German Engineered Automobiles” of operating systems!

Im am using a usb for further information

Also it is 32-bit and have no errors on the installation media.

No dual boot only openSUSE. I have had Ubuntu which is OK and Kubuntu Xubuntu Lubuntu and Joli OS which is what I am Using no win7 (it sucks)

Correct me if I’m wrong:

Hard Drive with one partition containing Joli OS.
USB install media.
32-bit image.
You verified the USB image.
You have checked your BIOS to see if it allows booting from USB sticks.

More questions:
How did you install to USB?
Have you tried the stick on another machine?

Yes all correct and It worked on another computer and I used pendrive Linux on a friends computer

hhmmm off hand i’d start with the boot order of the system and make sure the usb drive is the first one checked. I have a feeling the install is looking for the first device to boot from and nothing else after that… failing that, it might be an odd problem with usb drive. I’ve heard about others having trouble with flash media not working for installs and simply switching to another brand may cure this problem.

Doesn’t work anything I have googled it to the extreme and still if I dont get this working I will just do ark because Jolios doesn’t do what I need it to dO I can’t even use the Ethernet in Jolios

Turns out if you follow the SDB instructions closely it turns out right. WARNING! i USED DIFFERNET usb STICKS AND I LEarnedthat once you use the live installer the usb will not work with other usb install programs(eg. uni usb installer, unetbootin, etc) for those that still dont understand it here are the instructions.
1.First download
2.although it says .raw just click select and in the filebox ( the box at the bottom) type . and press ENTER then all youre programs will show up. choose the .iso and push OK then Copy and youre done
3. Change the bios and in the move to the part that says install
4.Then type in boot options it will automaticaly do that for youand type without qoutations “namescheme=by-label”
