Suse noob needs help!! I just moved from Opensuse 11.1 to 11.2- all fine, except that I can no longer access the internet. NetworkManager tells me that I am connected, and when I ping Google, I get a response. However, Firefox fails to connect. Running zypper reports the message “Error code: Connection Failed
Error Message: Couldn’t resolve host ‘download.opensuse.org’”
NetworkManager tell you that you are connected or that you have
link??? I supose you’re using a laptop, so try disabling the wlan0 and
connect through wired, if the problem is with NetworkManager-kde try
deleting all networkmanager configuration files and configure it again

Cause I had some issues with network admin, in previous version was recommended to disable it in Yast and choose the traditional ifup. You might use this method and whenver you have problems ifdown eth0 (or eth1) will bring down the connection. ifup eth0(eth1) will reconnect it. In the ifconfig you should see an ip address which assigned to you by the router/network provider.
Good luck!

Thanks for the help - NetworkManager reports “Status: Connected”. This is indeed on a laptop - same result when wired as wireless. How does one delete all network configuration files and then recreate?

Thanks for suggestion, I’ve tried it via the traditional ifup method now too - still no luck!!
Thanks for assistance - this seems to be a particularly stubborn problem…
The results of ifconfig show that you do not have an IP address on either
wlan0 or eth0. On a properly configured card you would expect something
like:
If you still are having problems, please describe the kind of connection you
are trying to make, wired or wireless, router? modem?. Post back what you
have tried. Until you are getting an IP there is no reason to worry about
DNS or IPv6.

Thanks for all the assistance - after a lot of time banging my head off the wall, it turns out that it was my crappy Motorola Netopia router causing the hassle. After disabling IPv6 for Firefox, access to the web returned: Disable IPv6 for Firefox - openSUSE
