I set my display protocol to Wayland and saved it, but it keeps reverting to X11. I don’t want it to change back. Is there a permanent way to keep it set to Wayland?
Try once to disable autologin. Choose Wayland session at the login screen. Enable autologin again.
even the auto-login not shutting off in x11 even though i entered the correct password and applied the setting
Check /var/lib/sddm/state.confas that contains the last successful session details. You can safely remove that.
If you are not set on using the KDE desktop you could switch to Gnome which ships without X11 & Wayland as the default.
