Canon Pixma MX435 All In One Printer- printing but not scanning

Hi all, just wanted to say thank you for the welcome I had.

I managed to make the Canon printer work OpenSuse 12.3 for printing but not for scanning.

The printer itself was a present form a family relation, so I can’t get rid of it, as it means a lot to me, as it was a gift from someone real close to me.

Although its a wireless all in one printer, its currently connected by USB.

Thank you for any advice/help that I receive.

Use Yast - Hardware - Scanner. First, you’d have to see whether the scanner is detected, then if a driver is assigned to it. IME scanning support for Canons is better than printer support.

Most Canon multifunction devices require proprietary drivers - they supply the drivers and an application (scangearmp) to scan with. You’ll want the scangearmp-mx430series-1.90-1-rpm.tar.gz package from here:

PIXMA MX434

Once you have downloaded and unpacked it, use the package manager to install the ‘scangearmp-common’ and ‘scangearmp-mx430-series’ RPMs. (I don’t recommend using the install scipt as it won’t cope/help with missing dependencies.) I hope that is enough to get you started. Post again if you get stuck.
