cannot play dvd on new pc

Howdy all,

I have a new laptop, recently installed 13.2 on it (#2 below). I have
already gone through the multimedia installation guide, and the dvd
won’t play on kaffeine, smplayer, or vlc. Any ideas what’s wrong? I have
libdvdread, libdvdcss and libdvdnav installed.

Here is the output from VLC when I try to play the dvd with it:

This is the first time I have tried to play a dvd on this pc. Note that
it is a dvd and not blu-ray. The errors are basically the same for
kaffeine and smplayer (but those don’t try and access the blu-ray
library). I have successfully played a VCD on this computer, and there
is no other indication that the dvd drive might not be working. The dvd
itself plays in a regular dvd player without a problem.

do you have libdvdnav4 and libdvdcss2
https://software.opensuse.org/package/libdvdnav4
libdvdcss is in a separate repository you can enable it via yast->repository management->community repositories.

I know some have had issues until they have set the region on the hardware.

There are some DVD’s that can be troublesome and I have found often that either Handbrake or k9copy will actually rip the title even when it doesn’t actually play directly.

You should try to play other dvds. Maybe old ones.
