Can 't connect to wireless B4313

Hello, I have a broadcom 4313 with broadcom-wl driver that I installed it throug Yast. It worked fine since one day stoped work. I found wireless networks but i cant connect either they have no encryption either they have wpa encryption. On windows partition works fine. I have to mention that i have no previous kernel to boot from them (and i haven 't tried to connect to an network through a liveUSB). I reistalled broadcom-wl package but nothing changed.
Here are some commands…

My card is: 01:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)
And my kernel: 3.4.6-2.10-default

I would appreciate any help

With the same Network controller on an HP625 all I did was blacklist the b43 driver

added the following lines to /etc/modprobe.d/50-blacklist.conf

#
blacklist b43
# trying to get wifi to work 26Aug2012

did nothing else, after reboot the follow drivers were loaded automatically

> lsmod |grep brcmsmac
brcmsmac              568774  0
mac80211              599292  1 brcmsmac
brcmutil               14755  1 brcmsmac
cfg80211              214372  2 brcmsmac,mac80211
cordic                 12535  1 brcmsmac
bcma                   40177  1 brcmsmac

thereafter wireless worked

kernel 3.5.3-1-desktop x86_64 (64 bit) installed

I found what happend. I had disable the option that saves the encryption keys in a “safe place” (aka kdwallet) because it was not working properly with my broadband connection. I will make a bug report when I will have same spare time. Can anyone try and reply to this post if he has the same problem?

@keellambert](http://forums.opensuse.org/members/keellambert.html)
When you install the broadcom-wl from Yast it automatically create a file that blacklist with all the modules that create a conflict. It was already blacklisted in that file /etc/modprobe.d/50-broadcom-wl-blacklist.conf . By the way thanks for the reply. :slight_smile:

@tasos_anagn

Suggest you carefully re-read my earlier post.

Nothing was installed from anywhere --lol!

@keellambert](http://forums.opensuse.org/members/keellambert.html)
I 'm sorry i take it for granded because I said that I had installed broadcom-wl at my first post. Even if I blacklist b43 and Ι use brcmsmac module, I have again a not working wireless card (it doesn 't detect any wireless but I can see my interface at network manager). So I have to install the broadcom-wl driver. Always I look forward if my card will be supported by a free driver. If you (or anyone else) have the same card as mine and it is supported by any other free driver, please let me know.

For the time being my wireless work fine.

@tasos_anagn

have you tried setting up from a new user account?

The brcmsmac module worked (at least for me) for this card B4313 in version 12.1, after manually installing kernel-firmware package. http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/wireless/468384-incorrect-driver-broadcom-4313-when-installing-opensuse-12-1-dvd-but-correct-kde-livecd.html

This was reported as a bug and officially solved for 12.2 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=733148but I still have not installed 12.2 to check if this card already works after installation. May be it’s your problem as well.

@tonrev

FWIW

I’m running with 12.2_64bit, I also assumed tasos_anagn was, but he did not explicitly say so

kernel-firmware-20120719git-36.1.noarch was installed by default

@tasos_anagn

just remembered something, during the initial set-up

ndiswrapper

was not installed due to it needing kernel default of an earlier version

to the wanted kernel desktop being installed

ndiswrapper is still not installed,
I do not know what difference, if any, this makes

do you have ndiswrapper installed?

Note, ndiswrapper is a method of using a Windows driver for a wireless device on
a Linux system. Frequently, it does not work, and when it does, it greatly
increases the likelihood of the Linux equivalent of the famous Windows “Blue
Screen of Death”. Accordingly, it should be used only for those cases where
there is not a functional native Linux driver. As the BCM4313 has two Linux
drivers, ndiswrapper is not appropriate.

thx for the clarification

this being the case,
why is the default then to install ndiswrapper?

even on PCs with no wireless card the install scripts earmark it for
installation

just looking for some logic;)

I have no idea why it is installed on your computer. It is not on mine.
