Can not resume from sleep

Running openSUSE 12.1 (x86_64) , Linux 3.1.10-1.13-desktop x86_64

If left idle the laptop sleeps/hibernates . I have not been able to recover from this. The only option is to hold down the power
key until laptop is off.

This is probably related to the shutdown issue.

You will have to disable sleep/hibernation (they are not the same). Or,
find out why.

As Jim already mentioned this is a know bug with that kernel it is
removed from the repositories.

Go into yast software management, search for kernel and choose to update
it (this will in reality downgrade it to the last good version).
Reboot and the problem should be solved.

What is your graphic card?
If it is nvidia and you updated using the proprietary driver, there is a bug in one of the nvidia driver that prevents resuming from hibernation and suspend.
I think it is the 302.17 version

Opps, edit,
I see, you updated the kernel it is not in the repo anymore as mentioned above.
Yes I encountered that problem and revert back to the previous one the moment I noticed it.

The kernel update seems to have fixed both problems - hibernate & shutdown - thanks

I have the same problem but am very new to open source operating systems.i have just replaced Windows 7 with Opensuse 12.1. Could you please be a bit more precise about how to solve the problem. I opened yast software management and searched for the word ‘kernel’. i clicked on accept but nothing happened. So i found kernel settings in yast and opened that up. the two dialog boxes were blank.

I would really like to fix the resume from sleep problem so any help you can give would be much appreciated.

Another query if I may please. I see that there is 12.2 version of opensuse. if i download it from the opensuse website, will it update my 12.1 version? I have carried out software updates on the 12.1 version so is there any need to download 12.2?

Thanks for your help

Keith

Please copy the output from

uname -a

that will tell if you have the same problem or only the same symptom
caused by a something different.
