Calling NY City Folk or Those with such experience

Friends.

I have a trip to the US planned and will have one day to see the sights in NYC
Ground Zero, Liberty etc…

I’m needing advice on a best plan
Such as : Park and Ride In? Getting around - Bus, Boat, Taxi?

Thanks for any tips

Sorry, can’t help you there, Carl.

However, if you ever make it to Kamloops, BC, Canada …

  • I will provide you a place to stay during your visit;
  • I will personally drive you around to see the sights; and
  • I won’t charge you a dime!

I live in the Princeton area; you can email me offline, and I can tell you what I know.

That is truly a most welcome comment, however I regret I will not be able to take you up on the offer. Not only is it well off my route (even though I am going North to Cape Cod) it’s still a whole continent East of you. Coupled with that I will have in tow, my Wife and Son and another family of 4.

I Googled your place and it looks spectacular.

Yep.

I took this photo about a 7 or 8-minute drive from my place:

… and this photo from the McDonald’s just a couple blocks away from me. This I use as the background image on my now do-nothing website.

Awesome views, Gerry.

Getting around Manhattan - taxi is the best option, IMHO. You don’t want
a car in the city. If you’re going to be in a particular part of town
most, walking is a good option. To get to the Statue of Liberty, you’ll
obviously need to take a boat.

The best way IMHO to see the city is from a boat - you don’t spend all
your time looking up to see the sights.

Although I haven’t yet done so in NYC,
If you’re looking for lesser costs staying in the heart of NYC close to city points of interest so you can cut down on travel times and use the public transit to everywhere in minutes,
I’d recommend you take a look at pod hotels (and yes, there is one chain which “the” Pods)

For a very economical nightly cost,
Although each “pod” is a single room (similar to a studio in this way),
They’re very high end in accommodations
You can see the pics on their websites to know what you get.

AFAIK although these kinds of accommodations can be found in a few other places in the Far East, NYC is the only place you’ll find this in the USA.

The low-end budget comparable in the USA is Microtel.

TSU.

Thanks for some useful tips

For everyone’s information, we are staying well out of the City, near Spring Valley. That’s just one night, the day we arrive. The next day is the day in to the City.

After the City trip we are off to Olivebridge

Never miss the tour by boat encircling the Manhattan Island.
Worth taking pictures for souvenir.

If going to the Liberty be sure to get to the top else
you will miss 90% of your visit in that island.

Very helpful thank you

… and don’t forget to send us postcards!
