Hi guy’s, I done a search on this using google but could only find things relating to ubuntu.
Under windows your firewall stops apps from phoning home, or tries to warn you of some of them. Is there an app for openSuse that works the same way, Not sure about software built for linux, but I’m sure programs in wine could be trying!
which win apps in wine “call home”? my advice would be to find out,
and do not run them!
what Linux app have you found which “calls home” in a way which might
harm your system, or you?
but, to answer your question: restrict running software from doing
things you don’t want it to do by adjusting the already running (if
you default installed) AppArmor…
careful, it is heavy weight industrial strength security system strong
enough to allow you to LOCK yourself out…
see: http://en.opensuse.org/AppArmor to get started (that is not
nearly all the documentation available)

thanks for your advise, I’m new to linux and not sure how things run yet. as you know windows is to open for being harmed, just want to protect myself, and computer while learning linux, Or so I should say openSuse as this is the best linux favlor I’ve tried. Keep up the good work guy’s (not much coming from a newbie I know)
Unless you permit an application to make a call - for example, to check for routine updates or to synchronise your clock - nothing will make calls. AFAIK the only thing that is set up to make calls under the default installation is the update applet but it will ask you for permission before it installs anything.
