I am posting this here, on behalf of the board, in my capacity as an openSUSE Board member.
Hello everyone,
TL;DR: The Membership Officials team needs your help ![]()
I would like to bring attention to the current situation in the Membership Officials team.
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Membership_officials
One member recently stepped down and the team is currently understaffed. As of today, the team operates mostly in reactive mode. I am very grateful that DimStar found time to help with membership updates and cleanup while we were processing the election bounce list, but this responsibility should not depend on a single person.
Membership Officials play an important role in the project. They help shape the entry experience into openSUSE. If you have ever heard someone say that becoming a member feels too complicated, this is your opportunity to help improve that experience and make a real difference.
I am not a Membership Official myself, but I recently stepped up as an Election Official. Over the past two weeks I have seen how much work is involved and how understaffed the Membership team currently is.
Stepping up as a Membership Official can be a great entry point into deeper project involvement. It allows you to help improve the membership experience while building stronger connections within the community.
Membership is part of the natural openSUSE journey. People usually start by contributing in small ways and, over time, feel ready to apply for membership. Membership Officials verify that contribution and community standing, approve or decline the request, and ensure the necessary records are maintained so the new member can receive voting rights, an @opensuse.org email alias, and an IRC cloak. As a member, you can participate in elections and help shape the future of the project.
If you enjoy talking to new members, motivating them to contribute, and supporting them on their path to becoming active contributors and project members, then this role might be for you ![]()
For those who are interested: an existing openSUSE member can email board@opensuse.org with a link to their profile. The Board reviews and approves the request. An existing Membership Official then grants the necessary permissions.
If you have questions about the role, feel free to reach out. Strengthening this team will directly benefit elections, membership processes, and the overall health of the community.
Details about team and how to join are available here:

ps. of course the membership should be given for certain involvement with openSUSE, therefore βinitialβ might not be the right word here.
Best regards,
Lubos
