Bug in Easytag Genre Tag in ID3V2.4 needs fixing

There is an error in the application of ID3v2.4 tag for Genre in Easytag. This has the annoying feature of rendering albums which have been used with ID3V2.4 not visible to my music server. There seems to be a bug as far as I can tell in the from the following:-

The format for Genre (TCON frame) changed between ID3v2.3 and ID3v2.4. For example, Rock is ‘(17)’ in ID3v2.3 and ‘17’ in ID3v2.4 (no parentheses).

Your tagging program should have made the necessary changes when it converted the tags from ID3v2.3 to ID3v2.4 but it seems it is incorrectly using the ID3v2.3 Genre format in ID3v2.4 tags.

For various reasons, ID3v2.4 is better than ID3v2.3 so I don’t recommend going back to ID3v2.3. Can you use a different tagging program to do a correct conversion from ID3v2.3 to ID3v2.4?

I have reported a bug on easytag but no response.

I have been getting by with Puddletag but it works in a different way and old habits die hard.

Is there any way I can get this fixed, is there a coder out there willing?

Hi Budgie,

For such tasks I found kid3 quite useful. The manpage says it can handle both, ID3V2.3 and ID3V2.4 but I didn’t go into details. It’s a KDE application and kind of “self explaining” in the GUI. You can e.g. copy the tags from one version to the next (adding some changes) for a whole folder.
