It’s been a long time since I was able to use Konqueror in in Kde 3.5 for my web browser, but one of the things that I enjoyed about it was that I could open any web page that I had saved in my bookmarks right from the Kde kicker menu and have it go straight to that page without having to open the browser first and then choose it from there.
What I’m wondering is is there any way to make Plasma or any other interface we have today do something similar with the browsers that we have available?
I am alos missing that feature dearly. I managed to keep it during upgrading of several versions above 3.5, by upgrading openSUSE the online way. But lost it when I had to jump to many openSUSE versions and thus did a fresh install.
My brain/fingers are still not used to the, for me, new way of working :(. And until now I did not find a way of having such a Favorites (shown as a large yellow star) item in my main menu.
Open the KDE Meun Editor (right-click on the Start button, Edit Applications) and add a submenu Bookmarks
In that submenu create new item for all the web pages you want the following way:
That is indeed a drawback. As long as Konqueror was the default browser of KDE it worked perfect. Using Konqueror to add and manage the bookmarks. After FF became the browser of choice for KDE, you had in fact two unrelated sets of bookmarks. To add them to the KDE list you had to start Konqueror, copy the URL from FF to K and then add it in K.
That is the reason that now, having the whole tree of bookmarks copied from K to FF some time ago, I will not revert to your solution, how tempting it may be (thank for showing it).
Adding a bit of a rant: this is not the only feature we lost when FF replaced Konqueror. Think about the FF password manager vs. KWallet. Victims of loss of integration.
With change things get lost, password integration is on the wishlist.I am happy with a hybrid mix, for low-value passwords I have Firefox remember them (I guess you also trust Auth cookies, right?) for other passwords I use an external password manager that can open the website and auto-type the username/password.
Searching a bit further I see that there is bookmark integration in the menu only different:
Open the Menu and start typing the name of a Bookmark in Firefox and it will pop-up the Application, Desktop item and Bookmarks matching the word:
