For the last several years, I’ve used the proprietary Brother drivers for my old Brother DCP-7055 (USB-connected) mono laser printer. They are legacy 32-bit driver packages.
With a recent install of Leap 16, I decided to use the open printer-driver-brlaserpackage (designed for x86 architectures) from the openSUSE printing repository instead. This package provides a CUPS driver that supports a range of Brother monochrome laser printers using the rastertolaser filter.
zypper ar https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/16.0/Printing.repo
zypper refresh
zypper install printer-driver-brlaser
Then configured via the CUPS web interface http://localhost:631/admin
Printing works perfectly.
For scanning, I used the vendor-supplied brscan4 (x86_64) package as before.
